The first Catholic Jubilee dates back to 1300 AD.
The Catholic Church picked up the tradition of the Jewish people in which, every 50 years, the Jubilee was a year intended to help restore better relationships with God and with others.
During this time, debts were forgiven, slaves were freed and land was returned to its owners.
