For the second consecutive year, Rome is preparing to become the world capital of fraternity among peoples. In fact, from May 10 to 11, the new edition of the World Meeting on Human Fraternity #BeHuman will take place, an event of encounter and reflection organized by the Fratelli Tutti Foundation, whose president is Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, archpriest of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter and Vicar of the Pope for the Vatican City.

The initiative, entitled "Ideas and encounters for fraternity. Let us build together a world of peace", aims as always to build a new humanism based on the values of solidarity and social friendship. A large group of internationally renowned personalities will meet in the Eternal City to discuss and elaborate concrete proposals around the unifying theme of universal fraternity. In addition to 30 Nobel Peace Prize laureates, including Maria Ressa, Rigoberta Menchu and Muhammad Yunus, many other distinguished guests will be in attendance.

From the heads of international organizations such as the African Union and the United Nations, to leaders from the worlds of business, academia, science and civil society: a large global village gathered around 12 thematic tables spread between Rome and Vatican City.

Concrete fraternity

We will talk about peace, sustainable development, social economy, education, sports, health, decent work and many other topics related to the common good of humanity. With a big question in the background: how to concretely realize the ideal of fraternity that Pope Francis has repeatedly called for?

The program includes plenary sessions, workshops, cultural events and moments of spirituality. Highlights include the audience with the Holy Father at the Apostolic Palace and the meeting of the Nobel Laureates with the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, at the Quirinal Palace. Other speakers will include the Mayor of New York, Eric Adams, economist Jeffrey Sachs, the coach of the Italian national soccer team, Luciano Spalletti, and the CEO of Fiat, Olivier François.

The closing ceremony will take place in the portico of St. Peter's Basilica, with the participation of artists such as composer Giovanni Allevi, singer-songwriter Roberto Vecchioni and American country star Garth Brooks.

A global pact

This is not the first time that Rome has hosted such a festival inspired by the encyclical "Fratelli tutti". June 2023 also saw the signing of the "Declaration of Rome", the founding act of the Foundation of the same name desired by the Pope to promote fraternity everywhere.

The 2024 edition represents a further step in this direction, with the ambitious objective of laying the foundations for a true World Pact of Fraternity to be signed on the occasion of the 2025 Jubilee.
