Mariano Fazio presents a new volume that will enrich his already prolific literary and scholarly repertoire. Fazio is a priest, historian and philosopher, as well as professor of History of Political Doctrines at the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the Pontifical University of Santa Croce in Rome. He was also the first President, Dean of that Faculty and Magnifico Rettore of the University. He is currently working as an assistant vicar of Opus Dei.

The choice of the theme of the book, which is freedom, is not surprising. In the introduction, the author gives a cenacle of thanks to the Prelate of Opus Dei, Bishop Fernando Ocáriz, affirming that at the origin of the book is the profound personal meditation of his pastoral letter on freedom published in January 2018.
The way in which he confronts the argument is surprising, since he does it with the help of great classic authors of all times.

In support, the author tries to show how freedom is oriented to love, and how this affirmation has an enormous importance for the Christian life. Throughout the pages of the book, the reader will be able to observe how some of Vangelo's branches are similar to those of authors such as Dostoevskij, Tolkien or Dickens. The tone and the pleasant writing of Fazio invite to a meditated reading of the book, which offers orientations for a true spiritual and human growth.

"Siamo stati creati creati liberi di amare, e quando non raggiungiungiamo il fin proprio della libertà ci troviamo di fronte a un fallimento esistenziale. We all want a successful, full and happy life. The key to obtain it is to do everything freely, for love". This thesis, which the author proposes in a simple way - "all the great truths are" - is not easy to put into practice. Above all, as Fazio also points out at the beginning of the book, this happens because contemporary cultural currents embrace many conceptions of freedom that are far from this one.

Taking the classics of literature as travel companions, the author confirms that "there is a series of values to which humanity has aspired since its beginnings, and which deserve to be protected and safeguarded".
Therefore Fazio, with these pages, wants to present to the readers an aid that allows them to "decipher the deep meaning of this high concept of freedom".
