The initiative was already announced in July, with the deposit of the same instruments with the General Secretariat of the United Nations. In this way the Church, and for this reason the Vatican City State, wants to be in the front line to morally support the efforts of the States to cooperate in an adequate and effective way "to the challenges posed by climate change for our humanity and for our common home", which has then particularly affected the poorest and most fragile.

A solution for everyone

Era stato Papa Francesco, nella sua Enciclica Laudato si'Now, more than seven years ago, he has now resigned to renew the invitation to all the people of the planet to dialogue in view of "a confrontation that unites us all, because the environmental disaster we are living, and its human roots, affects us and touches us all".

In October of last year, in a message to UNFCCC COP-26, the Holy Father called for "a true and proper conversion, both individual and communal", hoping for "a transition towards a more integral and integrated development model, based on solidarity and responsibility".

The film "The Letter".

In view of this important event of the accession to the Paris Agreement, a new documentary entitled "The Letter" was presented in the Vatican, which tells the story of the journeys to Rome of various leaders who are in the front line to advance the themes of the Laudato si', from the Brazilian Amazon, Senegal, India and the United States.

Among these is Arouna Kandé, a social welfare laureate, who is exploring ways to develop his home village in a sustainable way, including the construction of a local health clinic. Cacique Dadá is leading a regional task force to improve the health of indigenous communities and has developed a training program for environmental activists.

Another protagonist is Ridhima Pandey, whose initiative offers education and support to the poorest communities in India, while Greg Asner and Robin Martin have created the Hawaii MERC, an educational center in Hawaii that brings together the knowledge of science, communities and indigenous partners to protect and restore marine biodiversity.

The film was produced by Off the Fence, Oscar winners, and includes an exclusive dialogue with Pope Francis and unpublished images of his installation as Pope.

È presentato da Youtube Originals e è la prima volta che un film con il Papa viene reso disponibile gratuitamente attraverso un servizio in streaming. You can watch it here:

Global campaign

In the coming months, a global campaign of actions is planned in various parts of the world to put pressure on decision-makers at the COP27 climate summit and the United Nations COP15 nature summit.

"Guided by the moral bussola provided by Pope Francis, I hope that all of us can find renewed motivation and commitment to protect our common home and to have compassion for all living things, including human beings," said the regent Nicolas Brown.

Hanno colaborato al progetto il Laudato si' Movementwhich brings together over 800 organizations and 1,000 volunteers worldwide, the Dicastero per la Comunicazione and the Dicastero per il Servizio dello Sviluppo Umano Integrale.
