In a letter addressed to all the pastors of the local Churches, the Pope emphasizes that the Consecration "wants to be a gesture of the universal Church, which in this dramatic moment, through the mediation of His and our Mother, brings to God the cry of pain of those who suffer and implore the end of violence, and entrusts the future of humanity to the Queen of Peace. For this reason I invite everyone to join in this act, calling priests, religious and other faithful to the community prayer in sacred places on Friday, March 25, so that the Holy People of God may urgently and unanimously make supplication to the Mother".

To this end the Holy See has sent the text that will accompany this act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary of the nations of Ukraine and Russia, to ask for the gift of peace and the cessation of offensive actions on the part of Russia.

Marian consecration

The act of consecration of Ukraine and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary will be performed in Fatima the same day, by Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, papal emissary, who was invited by the Holy Father.

In Rome the act of consecration will take place in the context of the Celebration of Penance, which will take place in the Basilica of St. Peter at 17:00 Rome time. The consecration, specifically, is scheduled around 18:30.

The text to be used in the ceremony is as follows:

O Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, we, in this prayer of tribulation, pray to you. You are Mother, I love you and I know you: nothing has cost you what we hold dear. Mother of mercy, so many times we have experienced your provident mercy, your presence that brings peace, because you always guide us to Jesus, Prince of Peace.

But we have chosen the way of peace. We have forgotten the lesson of the tragedies of the last century, the sacrifice of millions of dead in the world wars. We have disregarded the commitments made as a Community of Nations and we are translating the dreams of peace of the people and the hopes of the young. We have become greedy, we have become entrenched in nationalist interests, we have become paralyzed by indifference and paralyzed by selfishness. We have preferred to ignore God, to live with our own falsehoods, to feed aggressiveness, to suppress the vain and to accumulate weapons, forgetting that we are the guardians of our neighbor and of the common home itself. We have destroyed with war the garden of the Earth, we have wounded with sin the heart of our Father, who loves us brothers and sisters. Siamo diventati indifferenti a tutti e a tutto, fuorché a noi stessi. And with shame we say: forgive us, Lord!

In the misery of sin, in our weaknesses and frailty, in the misery of the iniquity of evil and war, you, Holy Mother, remind us that God does not abandon us, but continues to keep us with love, desiring to forgive us and to restore us. It is He who has given you to us and has placed in your immaculate Heart a refuge for the Church and for humanity. For divine goodness you are with us and even in the most distressing moments of history you lead us with tenacity.

In this good hour you come to help and console us. You repeat to each one of us: "Are you not really here, I, who am your Mother?" You know how to know the depths of our hearts and the depths of our times. We place our trust in you. We are certain that you, especially at the moment of trial, do not disregard our requests and come to our aid.

This is what you did in Cana of Galilee, when you said the prayer of Jesus' intervention and introduced his first sign in the world. When the feast was being celebrated in sadness you said: "They have no wine" (Gv 2:3). Pray again to God, O Mother, because today we have drunk the wine of hope, joy has been lost, fraternity has been annihilated. We have smarted humanity, we have sipped the peace. We have become capable of any violence and distraction. We urgently need your maternal intervention.

You, "earth of Heaven", support God's harmony in the world.

Free us from war, preserve the world from nuclear minaccia.

Queen of the human family, she shows the people the way of fraternity.

Your pianto, o Madre, smuova i nostri cuori induriti. And while the rumor of the weapons does not tace, your request disposes us to peace. Your maternal embrace comforts those who are forced to leave their homes and their country. Your sorrowful Heart moves us to compassion and suspects us to tighten the doors and to take care of the wounded and scattered humanity.

Holy Mother of God, while you were under the cross, Jesus, seeing the disciple close to you, said to you: "I am your son" (Gv 19:26): thus he loved each one of us. Mother, we want to welcome you in our life and in our history. At this moment humanity, finite and strained, is under the cross with you. And it needs to be attached to you, to consecrate itself to Christ through you. The Ukrainian people and the Russian people, who revere you with love, pray to you, while your Heart beats for them and for all the people killed by war, fame, injustice and misery.

We, therefore, Mother of God and our own, only affectionately affirm and consecrate to your immaculate Heart ourselves, the Church and all humanity, especially Russia and Ukraine. Accept this act of ours that we share with trust and love, make war cease, bring peace to the world. Therefore we entrust to you the future of the whole human family, the needs and expectations of the people, the anxieties and hopes of the world.

You have witnessed humanity to Jesus, make us of the artisans of communion. You have walked on our paths, guided us in your feelings of peace. Amen.
